Shirley and her husband Rick have lived in Willington for 30 years. Rick is the President of Beyor Builders, a company he founded with Shirley in 1976. Beyor Builders is well known for high quality custom homes, which have been built throughout Northeastern CT for the past 32 years. Shirley worked for many years in the Graduate Office of the English Department at the University of CT in Storrs. She is currently employed by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents of the Greater Hartford Region. Shirley has always participated in community activities. When her children were growing up, she was involved with the Willington Youth Soccer Program and coached 6th-8th grade girls. Currently, she serves on the Willington Youth and Family Social Services Board and is an annual participant in the United Way’s Day of Caring event. For more than ten years Shirley has run in the annual Manchester Road Race for Muscular Dystrophy, and for the past seven years has actively participated in the annual Purple Tee Open Golf Tournament, which was established to create a scholarship in memory of a talented young woman, Casey Jedrziewski, who died tragically at the age of 16.
